Playwriting Workshop
Available for your group or organization
LEARN THE BASICS OF WRITING A PLAY – plot, setting, characters, dialogue – develop life skills for personal and career development.
Have your very own one-act play at the end of the workshop.
Workshops run 5-6 hours* and include introduction to writing a play, elements of playwriting, dialogue tips and improvisations to help develop characters. After the first two hours of the workshop, everyone gets to write a (short) play, which is copied and gets a script in hand reading before the end of class.
Instructor: Janet S. Tiger is currently the Playwright-in-Residence at Swedenborg Hall in San Diego. Her award-winning plays have been produced internationally from New York to New Zealand and are in popular anthologies in the U.S. and Canada. Monologues and plays by Tiger have been used by students to win contests at local, state and national levels of acting competitions. Janet started teaching playwriting workshops in 1984, and will be going to Florida for a week of workshops in Ft. Myers this November, where the students will perform scenes from her plays.
EXTRAS - information will be given on how to enter playwriting contests such as the local California Young Playwrights Contest (for students) and national and international competitions for all ages.
