Woman
The first time.... The first time you take a breath. The first time you smile. The first time you eat something very delicious. The first time something hurts. The first time you walk, the first time you run.... The first time you fall. The first time you realize you love someone. The first time you are very mad…at someone you love. The first time....you're afraid. The first time you go to school. The first time someone pulls your pigtails, the first time you learn something so interesting it changes your life, the first time you realize teachers aren't perfect, like you thought…..the first time you realize your mother isn’t perfect like you thought….. The first time you make a friend. The first time you realize that friend kissed the guy you like. The first time you cry. The first time you graduate. The first time you fall in love...The first time you have sex.....the first time you have an orgasm. (an aside) Those three can be in any order. The first time...you are very scared you could be pregnant. The first time you are happy to find out you are not pregnant. The first time you really hate someone. The first time someone hurts you. The first time....(slowly) .you hurt someone. The first time you realize you did something really bad and you can't fix it. The first time you cry....so deeply that it's not crying anymore, it's sobbing. The first time you know you are over the problem....and you still hurt. The first time you get a job. The first time you meet someone and spend the whole day talking to them and you know that you are going to marry them. The first time you get married.... The first time you are sad to find out you’re not pregnant… The first time you get pregnant.....and all the other firsts that go with that ....all of which connect you to every other woman that has ever lived and had a child. The first time you......you see your firstborn. The first time you fall in love with someone you have never seen before. The first time.....you realize your children are grown. The first time you realize that someone you have known for 50 years can drive you insane when they are around all the time because they have retired and do not have a hobby. The first time you realize that someone you have known for 50 years is still a mystery The first time you lose someone you love. The first time....you realize someone you love is never gone. The first time you forget something.... The first time you are so sick that it is scary. The first time you realize that everything you know is ....nothing. The first time you see your grandchild. The first time you want to see your great-great grandchild. The first time you get tired – really tired! – of saying ‘the first time’ The first time ….I’m sorry, I can’t remember…. The first time you .....I'm sorry I can't remember this line…… (Starts to walk off, looks back) Now I remember…. The first time......you die. |
Man
(A man comes out onstage. He can be anywhere from 25 on up.) The first time.... The first time you breathe. The first time you know it's your mother smiling at you. The first time you eat something very delicious. The first time you walk, the first time you run.... The first time you get hurt. The first time you want to hurt someone. The first time you realize you would die to save your Mom. The first time you are very mad at your Mom. The first time....you're afraid. The first time you go to school. The first time you have to be so bored that you could jump out a window. The first time you get in trouble and go to the principal's office. The first time your Dad is really mad at you because you got in trouble. The first time you make a friend. The first time you realize that friend likes the same girl you do....and neither one of you goes out with her and you are still friends. The first time you drive...the first time you drive really fast! ....the first time you hit something and you have to fix it with your buddy so your parents don't find out...but they do. The first time you have to pay your own insurance. The first time you camp out under the stars and go fishing. The first time you find out that you really like to build things. The first time you get drunk. The first time.....you do it. The first time you do it ....with a girl. The first time...you are very scared she could be pregnant. The first time you are REALLY relieved someone isn't pregnant. The first time you graduate. The first time you fall in love,,,,,,, The first time you really get hurt and you stay in your apartment for days and eat delivery pizza and don't shave and don't recognize yourself in the mirror. The first time you really hate someone. The first time....(slowly) .you hurt someone. The first time you realize you did something really bad and you can't fix it. The first time you .....(hard to say this) ....cry.... The first time you stop getting drunk to ease the pain because the pain is gone. The first time you get a job. The first time you see someone walking down the street and she is so beautiful and you know this is the woman you are going to spend your whole life with The first time you get married.... The first time she gets pregnant ......the first time she has a miscarriage. The first time you are really relieved when she is pregnant - and she has your son, and you see him and something happens inside and you are never the same and for the first time you know how much your father loved you even if he never told you. The first time you....say I love to your son. The first time.....you realize your kids are grown. The first time you retire. The first time your wife almost kills you because you're driving her crazy so you get a hobby that you really love. The first time you lose someone you love. The first time....you realize someone you loved is never gone. The first time you forget something.... The first time you get that pain in your chest that feels like an elephant is sitting on you.... The first time you realize that everything you know is ....nothing. The first time you see your grandchild and you see your grandchild graduate. The first time you .....I'm sorry I can't remember this line.....I do know I am so tired....really tired.....of saying 'the first time' (Starts to walk off, looks back) Now I remember….
